[Well, this is a surprise.

It's a minute or two before a reply comes through. Ardyn spends a bit deciding on how to respond.]

It should be noted that I am not in any way a medical professional.

[But. But -- god, he may be willing to help anyway. How can he not want to, if being reached out for help directly like this? Sorry, everyone who worries about him being a bleeding heart.]

Though my newfound abilities might be able to aid you, I cannot say that it'll be a guarantee. However, I'm not the sort of man to wave you away on that stipulation alone. I'm more than willing to further discuss this, if you're interested.

Is that all my brother said? "Mutant healing abilities"?

That's all he said. Well, and that by profession you're actually involved with the law. Honestly, I'm not confident in what he said, but I felt I ought to try my different options.

[Honestly, he's not surpirsed that she's iffy about what Fynn told her. He has a feeling that his brother didn't think things through enough to provide sufficient details, honestly.]

I'm involved with the law by way of being a law professor.

[He teaches first and foremost, though he is still very much licensed to practice.]

As for my healing "abilities", the only way I know how to describe it is healing via touch. "Magic", even, if you're not terribly skeptical of the phrasing. I've tried using a couple of times, but never on anything severe.

Do you mind telling me what it is that ails you? Or would you prefer to have this conversation face-to-face?

It's not like Mr. Halloway or anyone else who could be listening doesn't know. I'm alright with a meet up in person, but it would need to do tonight anyway.

My eyes have gained extreme light sensitivity. Honestly, I'm sitting in the dark now with my screen at minimum light level.

I can certainly attempt to help you to the best of my ability. Thus far I've only healed bleeding wounds, so I don't know exactly how effective my powers would be; however, we may as well find out.

What time would you like to meet, and do you have a preference concerning where?

Yeah, as long as I don't go blind there can't be much loss. And one of us will notice if that's happening.

For obvious reasons I'd prefer night but I understand if you don't want to be out past sundown. That's like nine or more these days. As for where... Do you have an office? We could meet at some restaurant? No need to house call mutant powers.

I have no issue with going out past sundown.

Do you know Recolle University? Look for the law building, and within it, the directory. My office is listed there. I'd be willing to meet you if there if it isn't too out of the way. I assure you that the campus is still relatively active and well-lit, even at night, and even during the summer.

[It's always been safe, at least.]

No, that's perfectly acceptable! If you're willing to be there to late hours, I'm willing to meet you there.

Would you prefer tonight? Tomorrow? Some other day?

Then.

... Time to go on an adventure to go and run into the man. The office at the university late at night. her new schedule based on the eyes or not she does know this is a little strange. Wearing a nice jacket, she... well. is going to show up there in all of her 5' glory.

Soon enough, she will make it to the office and knock, even. ]

Come in.

[Comes the voice soon after the knock, airy yet inviting. When she enters, Ardyn is seated at his desk (his office is neatly organized; all one might expect from a lawyer's office in general) but he rises to greet her, extending a hand for a shake.]

Good to meet you in person, Ms. Marker. Time for a proper introduction, I presume.

My name is Ardyn Izunia.

And I'm Elda Marker.

[ She steps into the room, taking his hand immediately before sitting. Once she does, she adjusts herself in the chair. Her eyes, as she said, are red. She's actually narrowing her eyes a little, wincing at the comparatively dim lighting of the building at night. Actually, she's resisting putting her sunglasses back on.

... Ugh this is going to give her a headache ]

[The displeasure at the lights, which are not even that stringent in his own office, is more than obvious. Ardyn finds his seat again, and rests his elbows on his desk, leaning forward.]

Of course. I said I would attempt to help, and I never intend to go back on my word.

[A beat.]

The lights, they're bothering you right now, aren't they?

They are, [ She admits ] I've been trying to deal with limited light like this, but I still feel a migraine coming on.

[If that's the case... well. Ardyn's silent only for the briefest of moments, before he stands and crosses the room where the light switch is. He flicks it off, leaving only the illumination of his desk lamp, which he will click on just a moment after.

It's difficult to see, but his eyes will adjust. He doesn't want her to suffer this whole time.]

Is that better?

[ Honestly, that makes the desk light feel like the sun... but no, it is a lot better, it can't be near as bright as the overhead lights. So she nods, and looks a little embarrassed to need to be cared for like this. ]

It is, thank you. Can you still see?

My eyes will adjust.

[That is to say, he can see her well enough. If he's planning on healing her, it's not like he needs bright light for it.

Ardyn moves to his chair again, but before sitting, rolls it over closer to her side. Only when it's situated properly next to her does he sit.]

Now then, as for your own eyes -- is the sensitivity to light all that bothers you? Has your vision changed, or anything at all like that?

No, it's more than that.

[ . . . ]

I know it seems contradictory for healing and all, but my vision's sharper, and- [ she looks around the room for something that the desk light isn't illuminating. Ah, that book shelf in the corner. She narrows her eyes and despite it being super dark there, she's going to be reading off each of the titles there in order for a while before shrugging ]

I can see in the dark.

[He looks impressed that she can read the titles of those books, and yet... Ardyn isn't completely surpirsed. With all that was happening, there was very little that would surprise the man anymore.

He leans forward in his chair, elbows on his knees. He offers a hand to her.]

A merit, to be certain, but at the expense of light sensitivity? I do wonder if it's worth it.

[It obviously isn't, after all, if she's here looking for healing.]

Take my hand, if you want me to try to ease what ails you. And I would ask that you not be startled by my magic; it'll emit a glow, but a low one.

[ . . . Magic.

Sheesh, where has her life ended up? ]

Alight, I'll make sure to keep an open mind here.

[ And she takes his hand. ]

[Well, there's little else to do other than concentrate at this point.

Nothing happens at first, until all of a sudden something does. A light, a warm glow emanating from his hands, from his touch. It's peaceful, almost, the way it spreads -- the way it envelops a body whole, much like a warm bath, or the comfort one might feel in the safety and contentment of their own bed.

But that's all it does, in terms of actually healing.

Ardyn does not feel her pain become his, not the way it had happened in the past. Even if he focuses more (her eyes, he tells himself, it's her eyes that hurt) the magic doesn't appear to be affecting it in any way.

Frowning, he releases her hand. The magic ebbs away, as does the feeling of comfort.]

...Not a normal "injury", then, I'm sorry to say. It might be as I suspected.

[ It's possible that the magic does wave off the small amount of headache she has from earlier today? But no, the eyes themselves are simply sensitive and...

Healing won't fix it.

She rubs her eyes at the end of that, looking off at the far wall before looking back at him. ]

Honestly, I'd been thinking that too. That the sensitivity's more a feature than a bug of these things.

[He drops his hands, shaking his head in a somewhat apologetic manner.]

Yes. You can blame Retrospec for that. You're not the only one who's had changes to their eyes, it's just that the usual effect is a change of color and little more.

It isn't an affliction, only how your new eyes are now. My magic cannot heal that.

... Maybe I - she? - really was a vampire.

[ She grumbles that out and sighs, running a hand over her face ]

No, I knew that was a longshot. Thank you for seeing my anyway.

[He doesn't mind at all. Ardyn's a bit sorry he couldn't actually end up helping.
