And I'm sure you'll grow fond of him; cats are independent creatures, and he likely won't require as much attention as you think.
We should think of a name right now.
[THIS TURNED INTO "WE".]
What will it be?

[GOD, ARDYN. Look at what she has to deal with.]
Uncooked Chicken rather has a nice ring to it.
no subject
You're not naming him Uncooked Chicken. He isn't an ingredient to throw into a stew.
no subject
i thought they were supposed to meow? it's YELLING ardyn
no subject
Sorry, but he's laughing.]
Try feeding him? I'd yell, too, if my loving human was content with letting me starve to death.
no subject
[But no, she's not stupid, just crabby. Soon enough Uncooked Chicken has been brought to the kitchen and is chowing down on his temporary namesake, still half-huddled beneath the blanket.]
That was nothing close to the noise a cat is supposed to make.
no subject
Would you like for me to bring you some cat food for the time being?

[FAST FORWARD A LITTLE BIT LATER and Ardyn will be appearing at her door. He has a plastic bag in one hand, which has cans of cat food in it as promised. He may or may not have a few other things in his car, but... well, he can mention all the other cat items he's brought after she warms up to the poor little guy. Or at least until after she feeds him first.]
This should do for a few days.
no subject
[She sighs as she sets the food on the counter. The cat is still sitting in the middle of the kitchen-- presumably, anyway. There's a blanket with a suspicious lump beneath it, and Rosalind is taking care not to step too near it.]
Your nephew informs me his name is Kawaii-san, though I'm not entirely sold on it.
no subject
[That lump on the floor-- well, of course Ardyn moves towards it and crouches down, lifting the blanket up to peer at her new friend. His grin softens somewhat, his weakness for animals beginning to show.]
Well, hello there. [And then looking at Rosalind again.] You should give him a name that you feel is suitable. But not Uncooked Chicken.
no subject
[But she crouches down next to him, looking at her newest charge.
Kawaii-san (or Uncooked Chicken if you're nasty) peers blearily up at them both. It's been a long day. There's been a lot of screaming, both from Rosalind and him. He's cold and he's still hungry and this man, at least, seems affectionate. But nor is he willing to leave the blanket, so out comes a paw, clawing gently at Ardyn in a clear bid for attention.]
He has webbed toes.
[That's neither positive nor negative. Just an observation.]
If you're going to be like that about his name, the least you could do is offer a suggestion or three. Grell already offered Theodore. Kit is still frightened from the way Kawaii-san yelled, but I assume he'll come up with something clever, he names all his gadgets anyway.
no subject
My own cats are named after characters in mythology or fiction. Theming is important.
[Not that he expects for Rosalind to pick up another cat any time soon.]
Why don't you name him after a favored scientist of yours?
no subject
[Finally someone who knows what they're doing. Kawaii-san sighs and worms his way forward, butting his head against Ardyn's finger.]
You've got Erebus, I know that. What are the other two named?
no subject
Morla, named after the giant turtle in The Neverending Story. Always speaking in the "royal we". [A hum of amusement.] The other is named Rochester, from Jane Eyre. A moody man of dark secrets, but a romantic at heart.
[If this doesn't reveal a lot about who Ardyn is, I just don't know what to tell you.]
no subject
I see.
[You know who didn't need Rochester explained? This gal. They're both pathetic, this is the worst.]
And if you were to take this one on? I suppose Mr. Darcy would be about as well-fitting as Kawaii-san.
no subject
But he looks up at her, grinning wide.]
I think he'd make a fine Mr. Darcy. Or Fitzwilliam, if you wanted to be less formal about it.
[nerd.........]
no subject
[She has Opinions about romance novels. I mean, she has Opinions on everything, frankly, but romance novels are pretty high up there.
Rosalind glances down speculatively at the cat again.]
You need to stop your nephew from doing this.
no subject
[Ha.]
Stop him from doing what?
no subject
no subject
[Poor little Kawaii-san. He pets him a bit more.]
Do you really dislike your new friend so much?
no subject
[Which isn't his fault, as Grell had cooingly said, but it's still true. Kawaii-san looks up at Ardyn with big, buggy eyes, mournful of this absolutely accurate assessment.]
But I don't dislike him so much as the lack of choice.
no subject
[Ardyn legitimately thinks this. He thinks it's cute and doesn't deserve to be called creepy.]
If you do decide to keep him... I have a few other things for you, but I've left them in my car. Shall I retrieve them for now, just in case?
