[The hug, by god, he wasn't expecting that. But it has him smiling, and it does wonders to push away (only temporarily) that telltale guilt that he feels these days, while in Prompto's presence. The reprieve, as transient as it might be, is welcome in the moment.]

Do you like it? It's a bit different than typing at a laptop, obviously. You'll have to get used to the feel and the weight, but there's something novel about typing away, seeing ink planted on paper with each keystroke.

[And yes, dictionaries still exist in physical form, Prompto. Stop making him feel old!]

[Seeing Prompto smile bright at him, like a kid during Christmas morning... he laughs. The energy is infectious, and he feels glad, so glad, that he can make him grin this way. With something as mundane as a dictionary and thesaurus, nonetheless! Prompto, so earnest, so enthusiastic and grateful.

His voice is threaded with the waning of his laughter.] I'd never joke about a serious writing endeavor. All I can do to prepare you for it, I shall.

[And, of course, he adds with a fondness:] You're welcome. [He's all but forgotten to ask about Prompto's appearance.]

[as ardyn knows. he stands up, and paces about] I can get paper from the store on my way back, too... Do I need to get ink?

You can leave it here if you like. I don't mind. We'll just have to keep it covered, so the cats don't jump on it.

[prompto raises his eyebrows and quirks a smile, adjusting the bangs along the frame of his face, standing up straight as if stretching his back]

I'm going for my second job interview at the electronics store.

Thought it was about time I get some real hours rather than random ones.

[Ardyn looks surprised, but certainly not disapproving.]

[he picks up his bag and puts it on his shoulders, turning around to look over at ardyn and doing a dorky sot of pose, finger-guns and sort of bouncing off his feet]

Noct's all better now and I wanna hang out with him as often as possible. That, and I gotta get serious what with the new semester starting up. I'm having two more classes this year, too, and I don't wanna lose my scholarship by taking things lightly.

[Ardyn crosses his arms, remaining still but listening with interest. The opposite in body language compared to the boy practically bouncing on his heels in front of him.]

That's a very responsible decision for you to have made, Prompto. I'm proud of you.

[And though the words are as breezy as they often are, it's sincere.]

A bit of structure never went amiss in anyone's life, you know. You'll be able to make plans more reliably now.

[he stops at the mention of hearing i'm proud of you being thrown his way. does ardyn do this kind of thing on purpose? feed prompto with words and sentiments he never had, growing up? it's kind of unfair how his eyes sting, but for once he manages to simply straighten his back and keep his emotions at bay.]

[That's all that Ardyn wants from him, really. For Prompto to do his best, to become a better person; not because he was lacking, but because at such an age, he was still bursting with untapped potential. Bright and intelligent, motivated and positive. It would be a shame to waste any of it.

Carving out something resembling structure in one's life (not just in the workplace, but in general) was the path to adulthood proper. He'd only encourage Prompto, even if it did make him (so obviously) emotional. It was positive, so it was fine.]

Be confident. That's the most important thing. If you can manage that, the rest will follow with ease.

Yeah, it's not like I don't know what I'm signing up for. I can take apart a computer and put it together again if they asked me to, no problem.
