We'll start with breakfast. It'll be simple enough.

Yes, though I rarely make them from scratch for myself.

[When was the last time he did that? It seems like time rarely allows it, and the effort almost isn't worth it for someone who lives alone (never mind that Fynn's started living with him recently) -- regardless, it isn't particularly difficult. Prompto could learn quite easily, he believes.]

Of course, I'm willing to indulge myself in them again for your sake.

That depends. How early do you wake up during the week?

i go jogging at 7am every morning! except when i pull an all nighter but that's not always

I'll be at my home anytime after you're finished, then. My earliest class is at 11, so that's plenty of time for us to make waffles.

[prompto doesn't even say anything, days later, when one early morning he arrives at ardyn's house post-jogging. he rings the doorbell a few times--annoyingly so--with rufus sitting at his side. he even googled what ingredients are needed for waffles! and thus prompto carries in his backpack things like flour, eggs, whipped cream, and actual real cherries (so much for counting calories)]

[he's excited to learn--and learning from ardyn is just a bonus, overall.]

[The doorbell rings several times, and something about it just tells Ardyn that it's probably Prompto at the door. He hasn't forgotten about their little agreement concerning waffles, so it doesn't take very long for Ardyn to swing the door open to greet the young man.]

Good morning. [It's early in the morning, but Ardyn already looks dressed like he's about to step out and head to the university any moment now. Obviously his definition of "early morning" may be a bit more extreme than most.] And to you too, Rufus.

[He "hmms" in amusement.] Let me guess, you're here for... breakfast. [Already he's stepping back, leaving the door open for the two to enter.]

Morning!

[he repeats, raising his hand in the process and helping himself inside, as if the awkwardness from the first time he came into the house were no longer there.]

[rufus follows along, already familiarised with the scent of cats and scarves, but keeping to following prompto. the teen stumbles about, removing the backpack from himself and opening it up so that ardyn can see the groceries within]

I came ready! I've really been looking forward to these waffles!

[daemonized]

[Sometimes even Ardyn wishes he had your energy, Prompto. Is this is coming from a man who often neglects his sleep just because he's used to it.

He closes the door behind him, then saunters up to look closer at the backpack and the ingredients Prompto's removing. Around the corner, one of Ardyn's cats comes out, tail in the air, curious about what's happening.]

You didn't have to do that. I have the ingredients here, too. [He had prepared for whenever Prompto would stop by! Both of them were Too Ready, apparently.]

[mercurio]

No problem! This just means we get double the amount of waffles.

[he is confident he'll have waffles for days]

[prompto lets ardyn handle the open bag business, because soon as he spots the cat coming in with its tail up in the air, he crouches and starts petting her.]

Hey, Erebus.

[insert silly sounds for the cat here, as she purrs and purrs. rufus is soon to get his nose all up in this business, nearly knocking prompto over]

Hold it, buddy!

[daemonized]

[Ardyn will just leave Prompto to amuse the animals, while he inspects the ingredients that the young man has brought over. Everything required, which should not be surprising -- it's obvious Prompto was very excited for his lessons involving waffles.]

Double? How much can you eat?

[It's a more hypothetical question than anything. A moment while Ardyn gathers up all the things and begins to move towards the kitchen.]

Come, let's get started.

[mercurio]

[prompto is called, and prompto goes, leaving the pets instead to play amongst themselves or explore or do whatever pets do when their owners are otherwise busy.]

[(it won't take long for rufus to follow prompto back into the kitchen, tail wagging and nosing about excitedly)]

Alright, let's!

[immediately, prompto's at the sink washing his hands thoroughly and drying them off on a towel. he stands besides ardyn, waiting for instructions, excitedly bouncing his shoulders back and forth]

[The soft clicking of a dog's nails against the kitchen floor isn't distracting; Ardyn finds it cute novel, and he just smiles as he unpacks and situates all the ingredients before them. A moment while he crosses over to the sink and washes his hands as well, commenting as he does so.]

There's a waffle iron in one of the lower cabinets, next to you over there.

[He gives a pointed glance to said cabinet, indicating the one he's referring to.] Take it out, plug it in, and let it pre-heat, if you don't mind terribly.

[The appliance that he's referring to looks practically brand new, once Prompto finds it.]

[mercurio]

Got it, sir!

[prompto goes to the cabinet, looking for the waffle iron (it takes him a few guesses but he spots it soon enough), doing as he's told and turning it on, before turning back to face ardyn.]

I've only had waffles at bakeries.

[he nearly bounces to stand beside ardyn, ready to get his hands into the preparation process, eyes downright twinkling in excitement.]

What's next, what's next?

[Prompto, you're not unlike an energized puppy. Has anyone ever told you that?

He's thought of it before, but Ardyn muses to himself again that Prompto's enthusiasm is infectious. A moment while Ardyn grabs a large mixing bowl out from one of the cabinets and sets it down on the counter.

Of course he's willing to guide him through the steps, but first--]

You know, I think we've reached a point where you no longer have to keep calling me 'sir'.

[It's the most casual sort of statement, said almost impulsively. But he means it.]

[mercurio]

[prompto stops, palms flat on the counter, and he looks up at ardyn questioningly. it takes him a moment for the words to register, since he isn't expecting anything but cooking-related instructions.]

[and when they do sink in, he has a hard time formulating a smart answer.]

...so, uh, [cough] what do I get to call you...?

[he feels a little bit awkward]

[daemonized]

[To him, the answer is obvious.]

Well, what else would you call me? My name, of course.

[And a small shrug, setting out the eggs to be cracked soon.]

Unless you'd rather not, if you feel it's too awkward.

[mercurio]

N-No!

[is the rather loud exclamation, sorry for your ears]

I can do it! Call you by your name!

[this was never an issue on whether prompto could, or couldn't. this is a lot more high tension for the youth than what it is for ardyn, it seems (it's clear).]

If it's alright, then I'll call you by your name! [HHHHHHHHH] A... Ardyn! See, I can do it!?

[oh my god prompto

He turns to look at Prompto squarely, attention pulled from the eggs. Look at how tense the boy is, look at how much effort he's putting into calling him by his first name.

He blinks a couple of times, then laughs. Sorry, chocobo kid.]

Does it really take so much effort from you? [Ah, it's endearing, though.] Well, with time, you'll get used to it.
