cutenovel, and he just smiles as he unpacks and situates all the ingredients before them. A moment while he crosses over to the sink and washes his hands as well, commenting as he does so.]There's a waffle iron in one of the lower cabinets, next to you over there.
[He gives a pointed glance to said cabinet, indicating the one he's referring to.] Take it out, plug it in, and let it pre-heat, if you don't mind terribly.
[The appliance that he's referring to looks practically brand new, once Prompto finds it.]

[prompto goes to the cabinet, looking for the waffle iron (it takes him a few guesses but he spots it soon enough), doing as he's told and turning it on, before turning back to face ardyn.]
I've only had waffles at bakeries.
[he nearly bounces to stand beside ardyn, ready to get his hands into the preparation process, eyes downright twinkling in excitement.]
What's next, what's next?
no subject
He's thought of it before, but Ardyn muses to himself again that Prompto's enthusiasm is infectious. A moment while Ardyn grabs a large mixing bowl out from one of the cabinets and sets it down on the counter.
Of course he's willing to guide him through the steps, but first--]
You know, I think we've reached a point where you no longer have to keep calling me 'sir'.
[It's the most casual sort of statement, said almost impulsively. But he means it.]
no subject
[and when they do sink in, he has a hard time formulating a smart answer.]
...so, uh, [cough] what do I get to call you...?
[he feels a little bit awkward]
no subject
Well, what else would you call me? My name, of course.
[And a small shrug, setting out the eggs to be cracked soon.]
Unless you'd rather not, if you feel it's too awkward.
no subject
[is the rather loud exclamation, sorry for your ears]
I can do it! Call you by your name!
[this was never an issue on whether prompto could, or couldn't. this is a lot more high tension for the youth than what it is for ardyn, it seems (it's clear).]
If it's alright, then I'll call you by your name! [HHHHHHHHH] A... Ardyn! See, I can do it!?
no subject
He turns to look at Prompto squarely, attention pulled from the eggs. Look at how tense the boy is, look at how much effort he's putting into calling him by his first name.
He blinks a couple of times, then laughs. Sorry, chocobo kid.]
Does it really take so much effort from you? [Ah, it's endearing, though.] Well, with time, you'll get used to it.
no subject
[he heaves a couple of times, dramatically, moving his hands about in typical prompto fashion of not being able to get his point across the way he wishes it to be done; what are words?]
[it doesn't take long for his shoulders to slump and for him to give up]
First names are familiarity, right. [trying to be as chilled out about it as possible] I just got to get used to it, yeah...
[alright, but, despite his more negative sounding tone, prompto's sporting a big smile on his face]
[so it seems this is a big deal to him, even without his noticing]
Do you need me to break the eggs?
no subject
[He'll motion over to said eggs, letting Prompto take charge if he likes. He hopes you can crack an egg without making too much of a mess, Prompto!
Of course, the entire time had been watching the young man as he obviously debated internally if he could Deal with using Ardyn's given name. He wonders, briefly, if he should address it.]
...Familiarity is a good thing, isn't it?
no subject
[he's toweling his hands dry when he hears the question, startling slightly. continuing this line of conversation means opening up about things prompto doesn't necessarily find embarrassing--but shameful, in a way.]
Ye-yeah.
[toweling hands profusely, looking down at his handiwork]
I don't really have... much of a relationship with adults. It's always a teacher or a cop or my boss. Ma'am, sir, the like. It's--
[hard to explain]
Different. To get to call you by your first name? [he sets the towel back in its place] Like, you're not just one of the professors from university anymore.
no subject
Well, if it's not so bold for me to say, I think you should have an adult in your life that you feel comfortable enough around to not call them sir or ma'am.
[He laughs a little, to ease Prompto's tensions.]
Not that I'm saying I'm a pillar of shining light myself, but role models will never go amiss in a young person's life. Who else would teach you how to make waffles, after all?
where did this notif go
Ri...right!
[but he keeps his head low, whisking away at the eggs with something akin to determination in his movements]
[no matter how much ardyn attempts to ease his tensions, they're still there. he would learn how to make waffle from his parents, wouldn't he? he barely learnt how to make a grilled sandwich when his mother felt like being kind.]
[role models will never go amiss, and ardyn thinking prompto should have one adult to feel comfortable around is a rather dizzying idea. not all adults are the same, but he feels jaded about the whole situation with his parents.]
[whisk whisk whisk... he's not going for peaks here, is he?]
