[ There is a box on the kitchen counter. It has holes in the lid and bounces around a little when the thing inside of it rolls over.

You know where this is going.

There's a six month old calico kitten inside with big black eyes rimmed in green. Two of Ardyn's measuring cups have been re-purposed as food and water dishes inside.

[There are just no words to be had. They've all been dismantled after he opens that box and is met with a little calico, looking up at him with those green eyes and mewing softly. He can't, he just can't. She's too cute. She requires all of his attentions for the next handful of minutes before he even notices the note.

You're forgiven for wishing me a happy 40th. The gift makes up for it, despite the fact that you merely assumed I'd be fine with taking in another feline.

That's hardly a reason to give /me/ someone else's birthday gift.

Still, this is the part where I say thank you, because you've gone and exploited my weakness and I don't think there's anything I can do about it.

Though you realize that you'll be receiving a bevy of cat pictures from here on out?

[Grell is well aware that Ardyn would probably adopt ALL THE CATS if they were sent to him. She is being reasonable.]

I think you underestimate how easily this little kitten's face will disperse any thoughts of negativity -- that includes inaccurate birthday wishes.

Accepting you're getting on in years isn't negative. Sounds healthy to me.

You can say that I'm getting old once I actually hit forty. Until then, you have a solid two years before you can do such a thing. So hold your tongue.
