I'll have you know that the gills allow us to breathe both in and out of water. So that wouldn't be a hurdle that we'd need to worry about.

[Purposefully does not answer whether or not he still has gills or not.]

Our team had to track down a guardian spirit. It was, in fact, a koi fish, so our trials and tribulations were rather... water-themed.

Yes. To a stone church with a riddle. It gave us a key to unlock a door, which led to a stone temple with even more riddles.

All-in-all, I think I never want to see another riddle ever again. It was quite a terrible experience in general.

i've been dealing with riddles myself, ones odd enough that i was convinced we were going to fail and be trapped there. so you have my utmost sympathy there. it's all in the name of saving those taken, but it's all rather obscure in how this will help.

i take it though that your replies mean you somehow made it through all the riddling.

That's a bold assumption to make. For all you know, I'm still stuck in water riddle limbo. Perhaps I'll never escape. This shall be our only means on communication from here on out.

Did your team also have to fight many more monsters?

if you're trapped, then i must mount a rescue operation. there's simply no other solution.

we did. many more. i believe it was the doctor's punishment for our team proving ourselves to be so volatile. her word, not mine.

No, Grell, you mustn't. It's far too dangerous. Leave me to my watery fate; I'll survive for a while longer, I'm sure. I can breathe underwater after all.

volatile because a teenager has a mouth on him and got upset over her terminology. words were exchanged, she cut communication, he stormed off, we grovelled a little to bring her back.

but i'm not simply leaving you. if you have any general idea on where to start trying to find you, i'll work from there.

[He laughs on his side as the texts come through. To be fair, his intention hadn't been to truly worry her, but after the week he's had, Ardyn feels as if he's allowed a bit of humor.]

Did you really think I was a merman? Fishtail and all? What would you have done? Scoop me out of the water with a fishing net?

you made me think you were trapped in some water dungeon torture with riddles
then what happens when your phone dies
or you drop it in the water

Come now, I don't mean to upset you. I'm sorry if I worried you. But truly, if there had been an issue, I would've stated it very plainly.

(The ocean would not work. I think I would be a freshwater siren. Sirenman. Merman.)

[another long pause, although this time it's actually because she's in the middle of making food and has to make sure it doesn't burn.]

you did worry me, but it's alright. as long as you really are fine.

[The pause on her end has Ardyn questioning just how irritated she is with him, so he's glad to see his phone light up with her text.]

At this point I believe you may just enjoy throwing me in a lake as recompense.

But I am fine, I promise. There was far less healing to be done this week, and the only injuries I have are a few bruises. A few are even interestingly shaped.

[Shaped like the suckers of a tentacle wrapped around his bottom leg. What a fun time week 2 has been.]

What about yourself?

i'm well. bruises and scrapes already healing. others got off much worse, so i've been running around trying to keep these fools together when they're so determined to subvert my efforts. one count of cracked ribs, arm dislocation, stabbing, blood loss...that's just a small list.

the consolation is that we hit everything harder than it hit us.

Such as to be expected from fighting monsters.

[Some of those fights sound serious, and it does cause Ardyn to frown down at the text a little. Not just because of the injuries, but also due to the fact that Grell seems to have to handle all of this by herself. It sounds like a bit much for only one person.]

Does anyone need a bit of extra healing, perhaps? [It should come as NO SURPRISE that he offers this.] Is Prompto all right? You should allow yourself to take a break as well, Grell.

it's kind of you to offer, but we'll be alright. prompto's fine, he has a bazooka now. and i'll rest when i can, even if it means i simply sleep an entire day after this madness has ended.

I mean to say that I cannot see the fact that he has one now as a particularly positive development. What if he blows himself up?

that's why he has all of team cognac around him. to prevent that from happening.

also i think he knows that if he blows himself up you would disapprove of the events highly.

Didn't you just say that Team Cognac has a habit of being riddled with injuries? No offense meant, but this doesn't inspire confidence that everyone will be able to stop him from blowing himself up. Does he even know how to properly use it?

he's used it before with no cost to himself. i think he'll be fine - plus ammunition will be hard to come by. it's not like he'll be shooting things all over the place.
