[ Yu's smile for his uncle will be mysterious but a little knowing as he heads inside. He'd mentioned to Ardyn that Yosuke would probably be nervous, and boy, is that ever coming true. Hopefully if they act natural Yosuke will calm down on his own.

He's got a cat in his arms by the time Ardyn addresses him, because of course he does. But he'll light up a little at the mention of lunch. ]

You didn't have to do that. Thanks, uncle. That sounds great.

[ Glancing at Yosuke with a warm smile. Come on, boyfriend. Deep, calming breaths. ]

Ready to eat?

[ Good things. Uh oh. That means he's got things to live up to. (Really, he's going to worry about most things right now.) But still, he nods to Yu, trying to sleep as totally chill as possible. (It's not great.) ]

[ See? Polite. Awkward, but polite.

Hopefully Ardyn won't mind that he's not interested in playing with the cats...he feels like he sees enough these days. ]

[Ardyn takes absolutely not offense if Yosuke is not interested in playing with the cats. If his felines want attention, they'll have to fight for it themselves; he's sure they'll manage it, one way or another. He gives his nephew a knowing glance as he leads them both to the dining room.

Well, then, fast forward a few minutes later with the lot of them seated at the table, having been served their food. Ardyn's put together a relatively easy pasta dish for them (chicken tetrazzini), and his fork clicks against his plate a little, as if heralding a question for the two of them.]

So how long have the two of you known each other?

[ Yu will set the cat back down before following Ardyn in. He'd probably, honestly, keep the cat on his lap during dinner, but better not today. Today he's on his best behavior to keep Yosuke feeling comfortable.

The food is great, and Yu enjoys it with relish. It's really nice, to have someone else cook for him once in a while...

Ardyn's question will win a grin, and he'll glance sidelong at Yosuke. ]

Since not long after Souji and I moved here. Yosuke, why don't you tell him the story of how we met?

[ Yosuke will also try to be on his best behavior. He wants to leave a good impression, after all. He tries to have excellent table manners and is a little too aware of how he's chewing. It's--look, he's never had to "meet the parents" before. This is intimidating.

And he's also used to being kind of unimpressive. He doesn't want to make Yu look bad, either.

It turns out he has perfect opportunity to ruin all the good behavior he tried to put in, though. Yosuke cringes a little, nudging Yu's foot under the table. Seriously? ]

--it was a wild ride! You know, Founder's Day Festival is always kind of a big deal...lots of stuff going on.

[ Just. You know. Normal fair, busy. ]

[Since everyone seems to be on their best behavior, the cats are being relatively ignored for now. Therefore, they meander around under the table, occasionally meowing and rubbing against their legs.

Ardyn is adept at keeping the focus on the conversation at hand, at least. He listens until Yosuke finishes his not-very-descriptive story completely.]
