Very well. If your relationship should turn romantic, then you've a choice to make: take the risk, or don't. The first may lead to nothing short of an adventure, or fulfillment and happiness in equal measure. It may also lead to unrealistic expectations, heartbreak, and the stress of trying to keep it all very hush-hush.

The second option, the one where you choose not to pursue it, is the safer route. Boring, but safer. You'll be asking yourself "what if" for the rest of your days, though. Or at least, until you drift apart and go your own separate ways, as is what often happens in life.

I'll tell you a secret: I'm a bit of a romantic, myself. I would suggest that you take the more amorous option, because despite all of the risks, you'd have fun for a while. Maybe even /more/ than a while. And even if it ends up shattering at your feet, at least you lived through the experience, did not have to suffer through the torture of /not knowing/.

[Of course this would be Ardyn's advice. He is a romantic, like he said, but he's also a somewhat impulsive, emotional man. But she can take it how she will.]

[What she truly appreciates about the advice is how thorough it is. This isn't a flippant answer, a go for it born of an idle whim. Yes, he's a romantic, and yes, he's somewhat impulsive, but he's giving her the courtesy of reasoning out his explanation.

She doesn't know if it will turn romantic. She can speculate about Fawkes, but the truth is, he's never done anything that would give her solid evidence to support her quiet hypothesis that he views her in such a light. Perhaps he doesn't. Perhaps her own fondness will stay at the speculation stage, limited to idle daydreams inspired by that one lunch date. Perhaps she's fussing for no reason at all.]

And? When I was twenty-three, and if I had found myself in a similar situation, I wouldn't have hesitated to speak up.

. . . it's not simply his age. It's the fact that he often doesn't act his age. We'll be talking and I'll forget he's nine years younger than me, he'll be perfectly mature and intelligent and brilliant, and then suddenly he'll say something and I'll abruptly remember.

I don't know if he'd bring it up, or simply try to hide it.

Then perhaps you should have faith in the age he /acts/ rather than the age he /is/. Wouldn't that be the logical conclusion to draw?

In any case, if you feel it heading in that incorrect direction, there's nothing to say that you can't be the one to quickly readjust the course.
