I've heard a few rumors flying around, of course. It all seems to be a rather disorganized mess, but that's politics for you.

What was your little chat about?

Her undisclosed reasons for stepping away from next year's elections. Namely that while no public statement has been issued, people believe she simply couldn't handle the position any longer. What have you heard on the matter?

What a shame, then. It sounds an awful lot like the information and gossip that I've unearthed, too.

Or rather, that she was under pressure to step down by our three very influential corporations, for how she's handled the recent crises in New Amsterdam. But honestly, that's a bit contradictory to everyone's expectations that she would almost assuredly run again, isn't it?

But then again, she wasn't the most stalwart of character in the dreamscapes. So maybe it isn't so much of a surprise.

That rumour does track. She's also been absent from her office as of late, but that's being kept quiet amongst staff. The impact on the city hasn't changed so she's been ineffectual for some time, I gather. And perhaps that's precisely what she was being paid to do.

I crossed paths with her in the dreams but it was fleeting at most. Was your encounter different?

I ran into many of her copies flitting about. I tried to get answers, and sometimes she just got in the way, so I had to remove her a few times.

Define "removed."

Oh, it's complicated. But were you aware that our powers/abilities/magic/what-have-you were no longer dormant in the dreams?

[He's sure he can chalk it up to dream logic. But it was nice -- like having an old friend return.]

Quite aware. The ability I received here was actually more advanced in the dreams than in the waking world — it's never been dormant.

Interesting, isn't it? Well, I didn't question it much at the time. Back on Eos, I was able to absorb the life force of others -- to put it simply. I retain a portion of their memories if I do, and therefore any useful information they once possessed becomes mine.

I did it out of impulse and curiosity both with the mayor's many copies. I didn't receive much from her, other than she was very... hm. Directionless.

You absorbed Gill-Jade and that's all you got.

Don't sound so skeptical! This, I'd not lie about. Yes, I absorbed many Gill-Jades and that was all there was to it. Blame it on the nature of dreams, impractical as they are.

I'm sure it has something to do with her not having much agency over herself. Over her own actions. She was being bossed around quite a bit.
